About the Artist
Mine Ercan Karabeyoglu (b. 1965, Ankara, Turkiye) started working with clay 10 years ago following years of studying and collecting art. At its core, Ercan Karabeyoglu's practice mixes a variety of techniques and artistic styles to capture the harmony of dissonance (Wabi-sabi). She finds inspiration in her roots in Turkey where pottery has a long-standing history of bringing far cultures of East and West together in form.
Her most well-known series to date, "Vessels," has been exhibited at '74 ESCAPE, MACAKIZI Bodrum, Vakko 8 Women, and more. Ercan Karabeyoglu favors working with Chamotte clay because of its natural, untreated quality. She shapes her pottery with handbuilding methods and gives them their textured appearance using the wheel and the Kanna trim tool.
Mine Ercan Karabeyoglu has home studios in Istanbul and Gocek, Turkiye, where she continues to live and create MAYNE. To schedule a studio visit, please use the contact form.
